On Feb. 2, three UN food agencies - the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the World Food Program (WFP) - expressed their condolences and support for China as it battles the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) outbreak. They also highly commended China's great efforts in dealing with the emergency and emphasized their willingness to work with the Chinese people to combat the epidemic.

The three agencies said they are ready to support China’s efforts to alleviate the impact of the virus, particularly in rural areas. FAO, which has global experience in zoonotic disease prevention and epidemic response, will provide technical support under the “One Health” framework, so as to help China improve its capacity to prevent and control zoonotic emergencies. IFAD, relying on strategic partnerships established over the last 40 years with the Chinese government in areas of poverty reduction and rural development, will continue to support China’s efforts in rural transformation, thus contributing to China's rural revitalization strategy.
