17th CATF Opens in Nanchang,More than 8,000 Companies Attend, Showing Over 50,000 Products

The opening ceremony of the 17th China International Agricultural Trade Fair (CATF) was held on Nov. 15 in Nanchang, Jiangxi. CATF was sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA) and the People’s Government of Jiangxi Province. More than 8,000 companies exhibited more than 50,000 products at the fair, attracting over 23,000 buyers from all over the world. Han Changfu, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and Yi Lianhong, Governor of Jiangxi Province, attended the fair. 


The theme of this year’s fair  was A Paean of the PRCs 70th Anniversary, Making Agricultural Brands More Popular, and Promoting Rural Vitalization. The fair opened from Nov. 15-18, which boasted an exhibition area of 130,000 m2, with 18 specialized exhibition areas which included a Comprehensive Achievement Exhibition, Poverty Alleviation Exhibition and Mega-Enterprise Pavilion. Ten major events were held in connection with the fair. They included the National Agricultural Brand Promotion Event; the China Agricultural Brand-building Forum; and the Digital Agriculture and Rural Development Forum. This years fair broke the previous records in terms of scale and number of exhibitors.   


This years fair which based on innovation, was also featured by many sparkling highlights. First, as a tribute to the 70th anniversary of the PRC, the fair was set up for the first time a comprehensive exhibition areas in the form of Chronicles, showcasing the major achievements in agriculture and rural areas, sharing China’s wisdom, solutions and experience in the development of agriculture, rural areas and farmers, all of which would stimulate social cohesion and help in the sustainable development of agriculture and rural areas. Second, market-oriented process has obtained substantial progress. The fair for the first time broke the model of inviting exhibitors and organizing the fair by provincial agricultural departments, but moved towards market-oriented exhibitors and organization of exhibition. The functions between the government and the market were more clarified in order to stimulate the endogenous driving force of the development of exhibition. Third, famous brands continued to strongly support agriculture. For the first time, the government supported industry associations and research institutes to release a Chinese agricultural brand catalogue, non-profit value assessment and influence index. The China Agricultural Brand Building Forum was set up as the fairs main forum. 34 county and city mayors proceeded to the stage to introduce their brands during the National Agricultural Brand Promotion Event. Fourth, the scale of trade was unprecedented. For the first time, the fair brought together a large number of leading enterprises in the agricultural industry. 104 agricultural related enterprises among Chinas top 500 enterprises participated in the fair. The organizers of the fair have used online and offline methods to invite buyers. Even before the fair opened, the intended purchase amount by large and major companies had already exceeded 10 billion yuan.
