Vice Minister Zhang Taolin held a working meeting with Enzo Benech, Minister of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries of Uruguay (MGAP), in Montevideo on Sep. 24, 2019. They exchanged views on furthering bilateral agricultural cooperation.

Vice Minister Zhang Taolin spoke highly of the achievements in agricultural cooperation between China and Uruguay over the past few years. He noted that China and Uruguay enjoy constantly improving cooperation mechanisms, steadily advancing agricultural S&T exchanges and collaboration, and rapidly growing agricultural trade and investment. Agricultural cooperation has played significant role in enriching the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Uruguay. Going forward, he hoped that based on existing cooperation, the two sides unlock potentials for agricultural cooperation to promote cooperation on exchanges and research in germplasm and the protection of new varieties and breeds.

Benech agreed with Zhang, saying that Uruguay views China as its most important trading and strategic partner and will spare no effort to boost bilateral agricultural cooperation on the basis of mutual benefit and win-win results.

During his stay in Uruguay, Vice Minister Zhang visited the germplasm bank of the National Institute of Seed Research and the biological strains test laboratory.
