China-Israel Ministerial Conference on Cooperation in Agricultural Innovation Held in Nanjing

The China-Israel Ministerial Conference on Cooperation in Agricultural Innovation was held in Nanjing on November 15, 2018. 

 

Minister Han Changfu and Israeli Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Uri Ariel delivered keynote speeches at the Conference, which is chaired by Vice Minister Qu Dongyu. The Chinese and Israeli delegations had an in-depth exchanges of views on promoting innovation and partnership in agriculture, and agreed to strengthen cooperation on rural revitalization, green agriculture, agricultural R&D and commercialization of research findings.


 

Minister Han Changfu pointed out that China and Israel are highly complementary in agriculture. In recent years, the two sides have carried out mutually beneficial cooperation in the introduction of new varieties, technical cooperation, personnel exchanges and agricultural investment and trade, boosting agriculture and rural development in the two countries. A key lesson from China’s agricultural development is that innovation drives the growth and sustains the vitality in agriculture. In the next phase, adhering to the new concepts of development and focusing on implementing outcomes of the 4th meeting of China-Israel Joint Committee on Innovation Cooperation, China will work with Israel in formulating the plan on innovation cooperation, strengthening the coordination on agricultural strategies, conducting the research on key technologies and cultivating youth farmers.

 

 

Mr. Ariel expressed congratulations on the opening of the Conference and thanks for the thoughtful arrangements. He shared with the Chinese delegation Israel’s experience on innovative water-saving agriculture and put forward proposal on China-Israel cooperation in agricultural innovation with regard to the research and application of agricultural technology and the cooperation between agricultural enterprises.

 

As parts of the Ministerial Conference, a host of side events were held, including bilateral meeting of the two Ministers, China-Israel Business Matchmaking and three parallel thematic fora (on agricultural cooperation, agricultural S&T and agricultural human resources development).

 

Over 270 officials and executives attended the Conference, representing competent agricultural ministries, the embassy of Israel to China, local governments and agricultural enterprises.
