On November 14, Minister Han Changfu met with Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food of Canada, in Beijing and the two sides exchanged in-depth views on China-Canada agricultural cooperation.

Minister Han Changfu spoke highly of the great progress made in China-Canada agricultural cooperation. According to Minister Han, the cooperation mechanism between the two ministries has been gradually improved and important consensuses have been reached at the First China-Canada Economic and Financial Strategic Dialogue, which contribute to the rapid growth of bilateral trade in agricultural products and the stable increase of two-way agricultural investment. The participation of Canadian delegation in the First China International Import Expo (CIIE) has been productive, especially in promoting export of local high-quality agricultural products to China, which demonstrates the successful win-win model created at CIIE. In the next phase, the Chinese side is willing to further expand its import of high-quality agricultural products from Canada, and encourage even deeper exchanges in agricultural scientific research, animal disease prevention and control, the quality and safety of agricultural products and young farmers exchanges in pursuit of pushing China-Canada agricultural cooperation to a new height.

Mr. MacAulay extended warm congratulations to China for its successfully hosting the First CIIE and spoke highly of new important measures for China’s opening up. The Canadian side was fully agreed with proposals on deepening cooperation put forward by the Chinese side and hopes to push China-Canada agricultural cooperation to a new level.
