China-Laos Joint Fishery Law Enforcement for Lancang-Mekong River Held

On October 26, 2018 China-Laos Joint Fishery Law Enforcement & Fry Enhancement and Release for the Lancang-Mekong River was held in Xishuangbanna Dai autonomous prefecture, Yunnan Province.


China and Laos have carried out fishery law enforcement and fry enhancement and release in the waters of Lancang-Mekong river for four consecutive years. Almost  one hundred tools, machines and nets for electric fishing, confiscated in cross-border waters, were destroyed and 70,000 fingerlings and fries of native species were released during the event. Afterwards, law enforcement officials from China and Laos took the China Fishery Law Enforcement Ship No.060 to carry out joint law enforcement. It is not only an effective measure implemented by fisheries departments in the two countries in pursuit of further promoting law-enforcement cooperation and cracking down on illegal fishing including electric fishing in accordance with the law, but also a powerful support for the Chinese side to strengthen the management of fishery law enforcement in cross-border waters as well as protection of aquatic biological resources and facilitate the construction of ecological civilization of waters.


Law-enforcement Cooperation between China and Laos has been gradually strengthened over the past years. Ecological protection, especially protection and management of aquatic biological resources, in waters of Lancang-Mekong river has become an important task in the bilateral cooperation. As a result, the two countries have achieved positive results and established strong friendship.


Chinese and Laotian Officials from departments involved, local governments as well as fishery law enforcement and  local people participated in the event.
