Vice Minister Qu Dongyu attends 8th Roundtable Meeting on ASEAN Plus Three Food Security Cooperation Strategy

The 8th Roundtable Meeting on ASEAN Plus Three Food Security Cooperation Strategy was held in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, on Sept. 11. 2018. Vice Minister Qu Dongyu attended and delivered a keynote speech.

 

Vice Minister Qu indicated that since the establishment of the Roundtable Meeting on Food Security Cooperation Strategy, ASEAN, China, Japan and the Republic of Korea have conducted a series of activities on experience-sharing, technological exchanges and cooperative projects focusing on disaster prevention and reduction, food value chain and investment in agriculture. These activities have greatly supported cooperation in agriculture and food security and played an increasingly significant role under ASEAN Plus Three ("10+3") cooperation.

 

Vice Minister Qu noted this year marks the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening-up and the first year to implement rural revitalization strategy. Seizing this opportunity and adhering to the principle of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, the Chinese side stands ready to draw upon successful experience on capacity building for a new type of professional farmers and food security from other ASEAN Plus Three countries, and jointly promote all-round development in agriculture and rural economy in the region.

 

The Roundtable Meeting adopted the Chairman’s Statement of the 8th Roundtable Meeting on ASEAN Plus Three Food Security Cooperation Strategy.

 

Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Vice Chairman Fang Chunming attended and addressed the opening ceremony. Participants to the Roundtable Meeting include delegates from seven ASEAN countries and the Republic of Korea, and representatives from international organizations such as ASEAN Secretariat, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the World Food Program (WFP) and the Secretariat of ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve (APTERR).
