On July 3, Vice Minister Qu Dongyu and Ms. Kundhavi Kadiresan, FAO Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for Asia and the Pacific, jointly signed the Agreement on FAO-China South-South Cooperation Project on Transboundary Animal Disease (TADs) Control in the Greater Mekong Sub-Region in Beijing.

It is the first regional cooperation project funded by the Second Phase of the China-FAO South-South Cooperation Trust Fund. The project aims to strengthen animal disease control in the “Belt and Road” region. China and FAO will jointly establish a regional mechanism for joint prevention and control along with Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand in order to improve management capability on the migration of transboundary animal and maintain safe trade as well as public health. The signing of the agreement indicates that South-South Cooperation between China and FAO enters into a new stage of development.
