15th Meeting of the Greater Mekong Subregion Working Group on Agriculture Held in Pu'er

The 15th Meeting of the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Working Group on Agriculture(WGA) was held in Pu'er, Yunnan Province, from May 29 to 30. Participants of the meeting exchanged and discussed the implementation measures on agricultural cooperation reached at the 6th GMS Summit in January 2018, and the outcomes of the 2nd GMS Agriculture Ministers Meeting in September 2017. Also, the participants agreed to focus on priority agricultural projects in the GMS Regional Investment Framework 2022 approved by GMS leaders, and the Strategy for Promoting Safe and Environment-Friendly Agro-Based Value Chains in the Greater Mekong Subregion and Siem Reap Action Plan (2018-2022) adopted in GMS Agriculture Ministers Meeting.


The meeting was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam, international organizations including Asian Development Bank, Asian Food Association and International Article Numbering Association, relevant departments of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China, and authorities of Yunnan, Guangxi, and Tianjin. The work reports on GMS agricultural cooperation (2017-2018) and the work plans for the next year were delivered by representatives from Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam,respectively.


As a member of the GMS WGA, China has always been an active participant since the WGA was established in 2002. Since October 2017, China has implemented the agreement of GMS Agriculture Ministers Meeting and carried out a number of activities, including capacity building on food safety laboratories and traceability, and seminars on promoting agricultural trade, among others.
