Prime Minister of Bulgaria Boyko Borissov Meets Minister Han Changfu

Under the invitation of Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs Han Changfu paid a visit to the Prime Minister’s office on the morning of May 28. The two sides exchanged views on deepening bilateral agricultural cooperation and promoting the “16+1” agricultural cooperation. Zhang Haizhou, Chinese ambassador to Bulgaria, attended the meeting.


Minister Han Changfu conveyed Chinese Premier Li Keqiang’s regards to Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, and spoke highly of Bulgaria, headquarters of the China-CEEC Association on Agriculture Cooperation Promotion, for its unique role in enhancing the “16+1” agriculture cooperation. Minister Han Changfu said that agriculture is an essential area of the "16+1" cooperation, and his visit aims to conduct a thorough study on deep tillage of Bulgaria and facilitate China’s preparation for the China-CEEC meeting on agriculture which schedules in Bulgaria late this year.


Minister Han Changfu gave a brief introduction of the China-Bulgaria agricultural cooperation. In recent years, agricultural cooperation between the two countries have been equipped with a stable mechanism and led to fast growth in bilateral agricultural trade. For example, Chinese enterprises such as Tianjin Food Group have achieved mutual benefits and win-win results in agricultural production investment in Bulgaria. Minister Han Changfu stressed that in 2015, the two countries sighed the memorandum of understanding on promoting the “Belt and Road” Initiative under the witness of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, laying the bedrock for agricultural cooperation. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China is willing to take the opportunity of the “Belt and Road” Initiative, scale up bilateral agricultural cooperation and further deepen the friendly bilateral relations.


Prime Minister Boyko Borisov asked Minister Han Changfu to convey his greetings and best wishes to President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang, and briefly introduced Bulgaria’s preparation work for the upcoming meeting of leaders of China and CEE countries this year. He noted that Bulgaria regarded the "Belt and Road" Initiative and the "16+1" cooperation as great opportunities of development. Bulgaria is endowed with abundant land and other agricultural resources and would like to invite competitive Chinese companies to invest in its agriculture industry. Prime Minister Boyko Borisov also expressed his opinions on accelerating market access and boost bilateral commodity trade.
