Lithuanian Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis Meets Minister Han Changfu

On May 25, Lithuanian Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis met with Han Changfu, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China at the Chancellery. They exchanged views on strengthening China-Lithuania agricultural cooperation and jointly promoting 16+1 (China-CEEC) agricultural cooperation. Shen Zhifei, Chinese Ambassador to Lithuania, attended the meeting.


Minister Han Changfu firstly convoyed Premier Li Keqiang’s cordial greetings and best wishes to Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis and extended congratulations on a series of activities of 16+1 (China-CEEC) agricultural cooperation held by Lithuania. Minister Han Changfu commended Lithuania’s creative ideas for holding High-Level Political Forum on Food Loss and Food Waste and EU Conference on Food Loss and Food Waste at the same time. He also emphasized that all these efforts embodied open and inclusive cooperation concepts of 16+1 (China-CEEC) cooperation and proved that 16+1 (China-CEEC) cooperation, as an important part of China-EU cooperation, would inject  new impetus to the development of the EU-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.


According to Minister Han Changfu, Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis and Premier Li Keqiang held a meeting at Budapest last November and two countries signed a document for the Belt and Road Cooperation, laying a more solid foundation for intensifying bilateral cooperation in various fields. The Chinese side welcomes Lithuania to export more qualified agricultural products to China and encourages more competitive enterprises from China to put investment in agricultural industry in Lithuania. Furthermore, China welcomes Lithuanian enterprises to attend the 1st China International Import Expo and the 16th China International Agricultural Trade Fair ( CATF) in November.


Mr. Saulius Skvernelis asked Minister Han Changfu to convey his cordial greetings and best wishes to Premier Li Keqiang. He expressed his gratitude for China’s support to a series of activities on 16+1 (China-CEEC) agricultural cooperation held by Lithuania and appreciated that more than 20 Chinese enterprises attended the International Exhibition for Agriculture and Food Industry AgroBalt 2018 in Lithuania. The Prime Minister also made a brief review on the development of China-Lithuania economic and trade relations. He said that Lithuania highly regarded the Belt and Road Initiative as important development opportunities and firmly followed the principle of trade and investment liberalization and facilitation as China did, and would work together with China in pursuit of advancing pragmatic cooperation in agriculture and other sectors.


After the meeting, Minister Han Changfu and Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis attended the opening ceremony of the 13th China-Central and Eastern European Countries Agro-Trade and Economic Cooperation Forum.
