Vice Minister Qu Dongyu Meets Four Vice Ministers of Agriculture at the 2nd China International Tea Expo

During the 2nd China International Tea Expo from May 17 to 18, Vice Minister Qu Dongyu met respectively with Vice Ministers of Agriculture from Zanzibar in Tanzania, Turkey, Cambodia and Japan in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, Province. They exchanged their views on further strengthening cooperation in tea and coffee and other agricultural sectors.

 

Qu said that, with a long history of being used as beverage, food and medicine in China, tea is not only a significant carrier for the Chinese culture, but also an important bridge and ties for trade cooperation and cultural exchanges between China and the rest of the world. Tea has become a common beverage for people around the world.

 

During the meeting with Mr. Hon. Rashid Ali Juma, Minister for Agriculture, Natural Resources, Livestock and Fisheries of Zanzibar in Tanzania, Qu expressed his hope that the Chinese side is willing to enhance cooperation with Zanzibar and actively promote bilateral cooperation in agricultural produce processing and other agricultural sectors; During the meeting with Mr. Mehmet Daniş, Deputy Minister of Food, Agriculture and Livestock of Turkey, Qu hoped that the two sides take advantage of China-Turkey Agricultural Cooperation Working Group under the Belt and Road Initiative in order to promote trade and investment in agriculture; During the meeting with Mr. Ty Sokhun, Cambodian Secretary of State of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Qu suggested that the two sides should strengthen the role of the China-Cambodia Bilateral Steering Committee of Agriculture and jointly accomplish the Modern Agriculture Development Program for Cambodia as soon as possible so as to actively promote cooperation in agricultural science and technology. He also expressed the willingness of the Chinese side to provide the help for the establishment of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences and Education in Cambodia, in order to promote trade and investment cooperation in agricultural products and enhance cooperation in capacity building and deep processing of agricultural products. During the meeting with Mr. Suzuki Ohsumi, Senior Vice Minister for Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan, Qu made an introduction on his participation in the Fourth China-Japan High-Level Economic Dialogue and suggested that the two sides should promote pragmatic cooperation in agricultural science and technology, consolidate the role of agricultural mechanism and discuss the possibility of signing the China-Japan Agreement on Animal and Plant Inspection and Quarantine in order to promote the development of trade in agricultural products.

 

The four Vice Ministers of Agriculture extended their congratulations on the successful holding of the 2nd China International Tea Expo and they were willing to further intensify pragmatic cooperation with the Chinese side and promote investment in agriculture so as to advance the level of cooperation in agricultural trade.
