MOA holds 2018 Video Conference on Prevention and Control of Major Animal Diseases

Vice Minister Yu Kangzhen emphasized at the 2018 Video Conference on Prevention and Control of Major Animal Diseases that the livestock and veterinary departments at all levels should conscientiously implement the guidelines of the 19th CPC National Congress, fully recognize the significance of animal disease prevention for a new era, focus on the rural vitalization strategy and promote the Healthy China initiative so as to make new and greater contributions to the decisive victory in building a moderately prosperous society in all respects.

 

The meeting pointed out that the new era signifies an important period of strategic opportunity for animal disease prevention, and provides favorable conditions, foundation and guarantee for the shift from effective control to cleaning and disinfection of major animal diseases. Livestock and veterinary departments at all levels should implement new thoughts and strategies, adapt to new requirements for a new era, shift their work orientations, adjust the focus of work, grasp development opportunities, and break new ground of animal disease prevention.

 

The meeting stressed that all local departments should effectively implement the prevention and control measures such as basic immunization, monitoring and early warning, supervision and law enforcement, and emergency preparedness to consolidate the favorable situation of animal disease prevention. More efforts are needed on the following major tasks for the whole year: first, to strengthen comprehensive prevention and control measures as in the immunization of H7N9 avian influenza, continue to implement brucellosis prevention and control strategies in different regions, and gradually expand the brucellosis-free zones; second, to reinforce the prevention and control of exotic animal diseases, and make coordinated efforts in the prevention and control of new and common diseases; third, to promote the regional management of animal diseases and the cleaning and disinfection of farms; fourth, to push the implementation of the policy of “injecting vaccines first and receiving subsidies afterwards” and the transformation and upgrading of the slaughtering industry, and resolutely win the comprehensive victory of animal disease prevention throughout the year.
