Vice Minister Qu Dongyu met Mr. John Mutorwa, Minister of Agriculture, Water and Forestry of the Republic of Namibia, in Windhoek, capital of Namibia, on 22 Jan. 2018. The two sides exchanged views on furthering bilateral agricultural cooperation.

Mr. John Mutorwa welcomed Qu and spoke highly of China-Namibia agricultural cooperation. The Namibian Minister noted that under the framework of the Tripartite Agreement on South-South Cooperation (SSC) signed among China, Namibia and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Chinese Government fielded 15 experts to Namibia in 2015-2017 to provide technical assistance in rice, horticulture and livestock. This tripartite cooperation has played a significant role in increasing agricultural productivity and food security in Namibia. Namibia is looking forward to the early implementation of Phase II of the SSC project.

Vice Minister Qu stated that China-Namibia agricultural cooperation has been progressing constantly, yielding remarkable results, and agricultural cooperation has made important contribution to bilateral relations. The Chinese side is willing to work with the Namibian side to further all-round and practical cooperation in SSC, human resources development, agricultural investment and trade to help Namibia increase its comprehensive agricultural productivity and food security.

After the meeting, the two sides signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Strengthening South-South Cooperation between the Ministry of Agriculture of the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry of the Republic of Namibia.
