Vice Minister Qu Dongyu meets Argentine Minister of Agro-industry Echeverley

Vice Minister Qu Dongyu met Mr. Luis Miguel Etchevehere, Minister of Agro-industry of the Argentine Republic, in Buenos Aires, Argentina on 14 December, 2017. The two sides had candid exchange of views on intensifying bilateral livestock and fisheries cooperation, expanding the export of Argentine agricultural products to China and facilitating China's investment in agriculture in Argentina.


Vice Minister Qu noted that China attaches great importance to cooperation with Argentina and is committed to working with the Argentine side to maintain a fair and open trade environment. Since the two countries are highly complementary in agriculture, China will actively consider promoting pragmatic cooperation in specific areas. Besides closer trade relations, China and Argentina could further partnership in investment. China's investment in logistics, cold chain and storage of agricultural and fisheries products will benefit the Argentine side. 


Vice Minister Qu also hoped that the two sides should be visionary in implementing the consensus of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Argentine President Mauricio Macri on bilateral agricultural cooperation reached at a side event of the Belt & Road Forum for International Cooperation.


Echeverley noted that China has become increasingly important. Argentina is eager to expand agricultural trade with China and welcomes China's participation in infrastructure building in Argentina. The Argentine side pays close attention to the substantive access of its beef, aquatic products and fruits to the Chinese market. He also hoped that the two sides could promote cooperation in biotechnology, seed industry, dairy industry, fisheries, animal health and agrochemical products under the framework of the Strategic Action Plan on Agricultural Cooperation between the Ministry of Agriculture of China and the Ministry of Agro-industry of Argentina 2017-2022.
