International Conference on EDFZ opens in Hong Kong

The International Conference on the Equine Disease Free Zone (EDFZ), co-hosted by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) Government and the Hong Kong Jockey Club, was held in Hong Kong on 12 December 2017. As part of the celebrations to mark the 20th anniversary of the Government’s establishment, the event was attended by over 200 delegates from 25 countries or regions and relevant international organizations. The delegates also visited the EDFZ in Conghua, Guangdong Province.


Chief Executive of Hong Kong SAR Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor attended and addressed the opening ceremony. She sincerely appreciated the MOA and Guangdong Provincial Government for their strong support to the construction of EDFZ in Conghua, and hoped that the mainland and Hong Kong could deepen cooperation and exchanges in veterinary services, promote sound and sustainable development of the equine industry both ways, and jointly contribute to the implementation of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area development strategy.


Officials from the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office and the Veterinary Bureau of the MOA delivered speeches and introduced the developments of the EDFZ construction. Witnessed by Lam, the MOA and the Department of Agriculture of Guangdong Province signed cooperation agreements on veterinary services respectively with the Food and Health Bureau and the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department of Hong Kong.


Prior to the Conference, Lam had a meeting with the MOA delegation.
