Member of MOA CPC Leading Group Tang Huajun visits New Zealand, Australia and Indonesia

Mr. Tang Huajun, Member of CPC Leading Group of MOA and President of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), led a delegation to New Zealand, Australia and Indonesia and visited related international and local agricultural research institutes.

 

In New Zealand, the delegation met with representatives from Massey University and AgResearch respectively. The Chinese and the New Zealand sides reached broad consensus on cooperation in agricultural environment and resources, livestock and veterinary services, capacity building and joint Ph. D. programs, and signed MOUs regarding cooperation in these areas.

 

In Australia, the delegation had meetings with South Branch of Natural Resource Management (NRM South) and University of Tasmania respectively. The Chinese and the Australian sides indicated that the two countries share strong complementarities in agriculture and enjoy great potential for cooperation in areas of agricultural environment and resources, livestock, soybeans and vegetables. It is agreed that a symposium on sustainable agricultural development will be held in Australia next year.

 

In Indonesia, the delegation held meetings with Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) and Indonesian Agency for Agricultural Research and Development (IAARD) respectively. The Chinese and Indonesian sides exchanged views on cooperation in areas of tackling climate change, agroforestry and animal molecular breeding, veterinary biotechnology and remote sensing in agriculture. The delegation also witnessed the inauguration of a joint laboratory with collaboration between Harbin Veterinary Research Institute (HVRI) of CAAS and an Indonesian biotechnology company, and visited a vaccine company funded by Harbin Weike Biotechnology Development Company under HVRI.
