Vice Minister Qu Dongyu meets high-level Cuban mulberry and moringa delegation

Vice Minister Qu Dongyu met a high-level Cuban mulberry and moringa delegation headed by Dr. María del Carmen Pérez, Director General of Cuban National Institute for Agricultural Sciences (INCA), in Beijing on 27 Oct. 2017.  


Vice Minister Qu reviewed the progress in China-Cuba agricultural cooperation, particularly in mulberry and moringa (Moringaoleifera), recognized the achievements and put forward suggestions for future cooperation.


Vice Minister Qu stated that both agricultural ministries attach great importance to bilateral agricultural cooperation. To further bilateral cooperation, he proposed the following:

(i) The two sides continue leveraging respective strengths to promote sericulture cooperation along the industrial chain. China will support its enterprises to invest in sericulture in Cuba;

(ii) The two sides enhance cooperation in moringa research and personnel training. The Chinese side will assist Cuba in research equipment to increase Cuba's research capacity in this regard; and

(iii) The two sides broaden cooperation. China and Cuba will exchange germplasm of tropical crops, including citrus and sugar cane, and conduct breeding collaboration. China will provide Cuba with assistance in rice and corn production. 


Dr. María del Carmen Pérez fully agreed with Vice Minister Qu and thanked the MOA for great support and assistance. She expressed the willingness to work with China to intensify bilateral research cooperation and push forward mulberry and moringa projects for more practical outcomes. 


Cuban Ambassador to China Miguel Angel Ramirez Ramos was present at the meeting.
