Vice Minister Qu Dongyu attends 17th AMAF Plus Three Meeting

Vice Minister Qu Dongyu attended the 17th Meeting of the ASEAN Ministers on Agriculture and Forestry and the Ministers of Agriculture of the People’s Republic of China, Japan and the Republic of Korea (17th AMAF Plus Three) in Chiang Mai, Thailand on 29 September 2017.


The meeting reviewed the fruitful results since the implementation of the ASEAN Plus Three Cooperation Strategy on Food, Agriculture and Forestry (APTCS) 2011-2015, and fully recognized the contribution of all sides to food security, agricultural productivity and agro-product circulation, etc. It also adopted the Joint Statement of the 17th AMAF Plus Three Meeting and the Chairman’s Statement of the ASEAN Plus Three Senior Officials’ Meeting (APT SOM).


In his address at the meeting, Vice Minister Qu noted that this year marks the 50th anniversary of ASEAN and 20th anniversary of the 10+3 cooperation. Over the past two decades, China and ASEAN have made great achievements in agricultural cooperation under the 10+3 mechanism. China is willing to deepen its cooperation with ASEAN under the Belt and Road Initiative and provide support to the best of its ability.


To this end, Vice Minister Qu put forward three suggestions.


First, strengthen cooperation in food security and facilitate the release of the Statement on ASEAN Plus Three Cooperation on Food Security at the East Asia Summit (EAS) this November;


Second, improve the agricultural cooperation mechanism between China and ASEAN;


Third, promote all-round cooperation in agriculture between China and ASEAN.


Vice Minister Qu also invited agricultural ministers of ASEAN, Japan and Korea to the 1st China International Import Expo, the 2nd China International Tea Expo and the 16th China Agricultural Trade Fair to be held in China next year.


On the sidelines of the meeting, Vice Minister Qu also held bilateral talks with officials of Thailand, Brunei and the Philippines, and visited the Royal Agricultural Research Center in Chiang Mai.
