1st China-ASEAN Agricultural Cooperation Forum held in Nanning

The 1st China-ASEAN Agricultural Cooperation Forum was held in Nanning, the capital city of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, on Sept. 12th, 2016. The Forum was jointly organized by MOA and the Guangxi government. 


More than 200 participants attended the Forum, representing government departments from China and 10 ASEAN countries, institutes and agribusinesses, international organizations, including the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Food Programme (WFP), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and China-ASEAN Center.


Vice Minister Qu Dongyu attended the Forum and delivered a keynote speech.He noted that since the establishment of China-ASEAN dialogue mechanism in 1991, China-ASEAN agricultural cooperation has been constantly enriched and renovated, yielding significant achievements. Thus, agriculture represents a priority area of China-ASEAN cooperation. 


To further deepen China-ASEAN agricultural cooperation, Vice Minister Qu suggested:

 (1) Enhancing policy communication and alignment of agricultural development strategy. China and ASEAN will step up efforts in the alignment of food security policies and agricultural development strategy under the framework of multilateral and bilateral cooperation mechanisms and by means of fora and meetings. 

(2) Promoting integration of production, education and research and cooperation in innovation. China and ASEAN countries will encourage and support various forms of cooperation between enterprises, institutes and universities, creating a situation in which technology advancement fuels sectoral development and vice versa. 

(3) Promoting cooperation in the development of international agricultural parks. China and ASEAN countries will encourage enterprises to strengthen cooperation and develop agricultural parks in each other’s countries, promoting cooperation along the value chain and sharpening the comprehensive competitiveness of agriculture sector.


During his stay in Guangxi, Vice Minister Qu attended the opening ceremony of the 1st China-ASEAN Agricultural Cooperation Expo and accompanied Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen touring the Expo.
