CVO Zhang Zhongqiu attends GF-TADs meeting

The 9th Regional Steering Committee (RSC) Meeting of the Global Framework for the Progressive Control of Transboundary Animal Diseases (GF-TADs) for Asia and the Pacific and the 1st East Asia Chief Veterinary Officers (CVOs) Meeting were held in Tokyo, Japan on July 20-22, 2016. 

 

Mr. Zhang Zhongqiu, China's CVO and President of the Regional Commission for Asia, the Far East and Oceania of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), attended and chaired relevant meetings.

 

At the 9th RSC meeting of GF-TADs for Asia and the Pacific, the RSC reported the status quo of global, regional and sub-regional TADs, and exchanged the challenges in TADs control over the past two years. At the 1st East Asia CVOs Meeting, participants discussed the developments of TADs control and future collaboration in East Asia.

 

Mr. Zhang Zhongqiu noted that 2016 is the first year to implement the OIE' s 6th Strategic Plan (2016 - 2020), and he put forward a four-point proposal as follows:

(1) further integrate resources and improve communication and coordination mechanisms within the Region;

(2) improve the overall capacity of disease diagnosis and epidemiological investigation;

(3) enhance the demonstrative and guiding role of OIE reference laboratories for veterinary diagnostic laboratories of members;

(4) adjust the priority types of animal diseases as appropriate and take necessary prevention and control measures in a timely manner.

 

Over 40 participants attended the 9th RSC Meeting, including participants representing UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), OIE and its Regional Commissions and Sub-regional Commissions, Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), South Pacific Commission (SPC) and donors.


About 30 participants attended the 1st East Asia CVOs Meeting, representing relevant international organizations and East Asian members.
