CVO Zhang Zhongqiu chairs 29th Conference of the OIE Regional Commission for Asia, the Far East and Oceania

The 29th Conference of the Regional Commission for Asia, the Far East and Oceania of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) was held in Mongolia from 15 to 18 September, 2015. Mr. Zhang Zhongqiu, China's Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO) and President of the OIE Regional Commission chaired the Conference.



Zhang Zhongqiu delivered a keynote report on animal disease control over the past two years and the five-year work plan (2016-2020) for the Region.Zhang noted that there is a large livestock population and diversified farming patterns in the Region, and we are faced with big challenges in animal disease prevention and control. All members in the Region should strengthen cooperation to deal with emerging and re-emerging animal diseases and protect public health and human health. At the Conference,participants had an in-depth discussion on animal welfare strategy and control of animal diseases including avian influenza.



OIE Director General Bernard Vallat and Mongolian Minister for Food and Agriculture Radnaa Burmaa attended and addressed the Conference. A total of 60 participants attended the Conference, including representatives of OIE headquarters, Regional Representation for Asia, the Far East and Oceania, members of the Region and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization.
