National Rural Work Conference opens in Beijing

The National Rural Work Conference was held in Beijing from Dec.22 to 23 2014. In order to implement the decisions of the18th CPC National Congress, the Third and Fourth Plenary Sessions of the18th CPC Central Committee, the Central Economic Work Conference and the Central Rural Work Conference, the National Rural Work Conference reviewed the work in 2014, explored ways to accelerate the transformation of the mode of agricultural development, improve and adjust agricultural structure and push forward the development of modern agriculture, and mapped out working priorities of next year.

 

The Conference pointed out that the grain output of 2014 increased for the eleventh consecutive year, the growth rate of farmers’ income maintained at a high level for the eleventh consecutive year, agricultural and rural undertakings forged ahead and the rural reform made great headways. The sound agricultural and rural economic developments did not only play an important role in promoting steady growth, advancing reform, adjusting structure and bringing benefits to the people in the “new normal” phase of the Chinese economy, but also laying a solid basis for the steady progress of overall economic and social development.

 

The Conference emphasized that working priorities of next year should be placed on deepening rural reform, speeding up innovation of science and technology, bolstering legal guarantee for agriculture and accelerating the development of modern agriculture, in order to reach the goals of more than 550 million tons in grain output and more than 7.5% in growth of farmers’ income; no major quality & safety issues for farm produce and no major epizootics; to increase percentage contribution of science and technology to agricultural growth and to increase efficiency of agricultural resource utilization continuously.

 

The Conference also required that agricultural staff at all levels should be innovative, honest and efficient. All the staff should intensify their efforts in identifying working priorities and practical implementation, and boost agricultural and rural undertakings in a down-to-earth manner.

 

Vice Minister of Agriculture Yu Xinrong chaired the Conference. Officials of MOA at the ministerial and department levels, as well as representatives from other competent central authorities, provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) and Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps attended the Conference.
