Vice Minister Yu Xinrong met with the visiting Cuban Minister of the Food IndustryMaria del Carmen Concepcion in Beijing on September 18, 2013. The two sides exchanged views on strengthening China-Cuba cooperation in food industry and fisheries.

Yu noted that China and Cuba are both socialist countries. Since establishing diplomatic ties over fifty years ago, the two countries have built up a fraternal friendship and always provided mutual understanding and strong support to each other.

Yu briefed the Cuban side on China’s progresses in agri-product processing and aquaculture sectors, and pointed out that China and Cuba both have good practices in developing the above industries and safeguarding food safety for the people. “Therefore, we should enhance communication and cooperation in facilitating system building, R&D and industry development, in order to achieve mutual benefits and win-win outcomes”, Yu said.

Minister Concepcion said that China and Cuba have witnessed the bilateral cooperation booming in political, economic and social fields since the establishment of diplomatic ties. Cuba would like to extend its appreciation for China's support and assistance over the years, and to learn China’s experience in agriculture development. Minister Concepcion fully agreed with Yu’s above proposal, and underlined a number of future collaboration priorities, including agricultural commercialization, food safety supervision and aquaculture development.
