Vice Minister Niu Dun met with Algerian Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Rashid Bin Nayi Sa in Algiers on August 22, 2013. The two sides exchanged views on further strengthening bilateral cooperation in agricultural field.

Niu noted that China and Algeria have both embraced a long history of agricultural evolution and created splendid agricultural civilization. Over recent years, the two countries have made joint efforts in agricultural cooperation and achieved remarkable progresses. Particularly, the training course on land management for Algerian officials in China built up mutual understanding and the long-lasting friendship. “Moreover, China-Algeria Soil Improvement Program is a model of bilateral agricultural cooperation”, Niu said, “and Algeria has become China’s important agri-trade partner in Africa.”

In order to further strengthen the partnership with Algeria, Niu put forward a five-point proposal: first, to establish and improve the cooperation mechanism between agricultural authorities of the two countries; second, to boost agricultural S&T cooperation; third, to beef up the capacity building in agricultural sector; fourth, to facilitate agricultural trade and economic cooperation; and fifth, to encourage collaboration and investment between agri-businesses of the two countries.

Minister Rashid Bin Nayi Sa fully agreed with Niu’s remarks and the above proposal. “Algeria is looking forward to working together with China to further promote the comprehensive agricultural cooperation to a new height”, he emphasized. “Also, we’d like to extend our sincere appreciation for China’s assistance and support to Algerian agricultural development”.
