Minister Han Changfu meets Turkish counterpart Mehmet Mehdi Eker

Minister Han Changfu met with the visiting Minister Mehmet Mehdi Eker for Food, Agriculture and Livestock of the Republic of Turkey and his delegation on April 18th, 2013. Both sides exchanged in-depth views on furthering cooperation in agriculture.


Minister Han pointed out that agriculture plays a significant role in the national economy of both countries. The two countries are highly complementary in agriculture, and thus enjoy great potential for further cooperation. Furthering agricultural cooperation between China and Turkey will serve the interests of both countries. 


Minister Han made the following suggestions on promoting future cooperation:


1.To establish a regular exchange mechanism, such as a Director-General-level working group, to identify priorities for cooperation and boost pragmatic cooperation.


2.To conduct agricultural S&T cooperation, including exchanges of technical personnels and germplasm, and collaborative research.


3.To promote agricultural trade through exchanging agricultural trade information, holding promotion and exhibition events,and providing platforms for cooperation between enterprises from China and Turkey. 


Eker fully agreed with Minister Han. He also expressed his willingness to enhance agricultural cooperation particularly in trade and research, and to upgrade cooperation level in an all-round manner.


Both sides agreed to set up the DG-level working group in 2013 and to convene the First Working Group Meeting in China.


The two sides also exchanged views on enhancing communication of industry associations between China and Turkey and furthering reform in rural land management system.


MOA Chief Economist and Director-General of General Office Bi Meijia also attended the meeting.
